With the launch of custom file uploads for large embroidery, we’ve introduced a pricing model based on stitch count. This change offers you more flexibility with your designs while ensuring fair pricing for the time and resources needed to produce high-quality embroidery. This guide explains how we calculate these costs and what you can expect when uploading your files.
Why are there extra charges for large embroidery?
Large embroidery designs take longer to produce and use more thread and machine time than standard embroidery. For example:
- A small chest design might take around 4 minutes.
- A complex, large embroidery design could take up to 2 hours.
To reflect this, we apply a large embroidery placement fee based on how complex the design is. We also apply a one-time digitization fee for all new embroidery files, which turns your artwork into a format our machines can use.

Note: This fee applies even if the large embroidery area is the only placement used on the product.
How does the pricing work?
After you upload your design, our stitch calculator estimates the number of stitches needed and assigns your design to one of seven pricing tiers:

| T6 | 45 000–59 999 | USD 16.95 |
| T7 | 60 000+ | USD 19.95 |
Example:
- A detailed back design with 40,000 stitches falls into T5, adding USD 13.50:
- A simpler jacket design with only 10,000 stitches falls into T1, so no extra charge:

Which products does this pricing apply to?
Currently, this pricing model only applies to products featuring the large embroidery custom file upload option. Eventually, it will extend to all large embroidery items in the Printful catalog. If you have existing large embroidery designs, they won't be affected unless you choose to edit them. Any new uploads or modifications will automatically trigger the new stitch-count pricing.
