Jacquard knitting lets you create high-quality, fully custom knitwear with your design knitted directly into the fabric. This technique is perfect for detailed patterns, vibrant colorwork, and durable textured garments. You can customize everything from colors to trims, making it a great option for stand-out sweaters and other knitwear.
What is jacquard knitting?
Jacquard knitting is a method where yarns are knitted together to form detailed patterns right in the fabric, instead of printing or embroidering on top. This technique gives your product a beautiful texture and long-lasting quality. It's ideal for:
- Complex patterns
- Multi-color designs (up to 4 colors)
- Pixel-perfect graphics
How to create your custom knitwear
- Choose a knitwear product. Pick a sweater or other item and upload your design or create one in the Design Maker.
-
Choose between two graphic styles
- Solid for clean, bold visuals
- Pixelated for a classic, digital-inspired look
- Pick your yarn colors. You can use up to 4 colors in your design. Choose from a palette of 36 pre-defined yarn colors. If your uploaded design has more than 4 colors, we’ll automatically match them to the closest available yarn colors.
- Customize the base, collar, and hem. Choose colors for the base, collar, and hem of your product. These must be among the 4 yarn colors you selected for the design.
- Adjust design placement for each size. Make sure your design looks great on every size by adjusting its position individually. This keeps your design aligned from the smallest to the largest sizes.

Knitwear design tips
To make the most of your knitwear design:
- Use no more than 4 colors. Designs with up to 4 bold colors look best and meet knitting limitations.
- Opt for darker base colors. Darker bases work better with jacquard knitting, helping avoid light threads showing through seams.
- Choose contrasting trim colors. Highlight features like collars and hems with contrasting shades for added visual interest.
- Use pixel-friendly graphics. Detailed, pixel-style designs work especially well with this knitting technique.
