If you see an error mentioning a “consumer key” while trying to connect your WooCommerce store to Printful, it likely stems from outdated setup methods. Printful no longer uses WooCommerce’s legacy API keys (consumer key and secret) for store connections.
What changed?
Our WooCommerce integration now uses a secure OAuth 2.0 connection. This means:
- You no longer need to manually copy or paste API keys
- All authentication happens through the Printful plugin automatically
- “Consumer key” or “secret” errors should no longer appear with new connections
Why the error might still appear
You may see this error if:
- Your store was connected before the authentication update, and the old key expired
- You’re trying to manually configure the API connection outside of the Printful plugin
- There’s a plugin or theme conflict affecting the current integration
How to fix it
- Go to your Printful plugin settings in WordPress
- Click Reconnect to restart the connection process using the built-in plugin flow
(Avoid manually entering API credentials; this method uses OAuth tokens, not legacy API keys.)
This refreshes your store’s authorization without removing any products or settings.
If you’re unsure whether your store is using the updated connection method, simply use the Reconnect option in your Printful plugin settings. This safely reauthorizes your store using the latest, most secure method without affecting your existing products or setup.
