The UK left the EU on January 31, 2020 and was given a transition period until December 31, 2020. Therefore, as of January 1st, 2021, the way VAT is charged in the UK will change.
Since Printful is registered in the UK as a VAT payer, this change will also affect the way we charge VAT for orders going to the UK.
What this means for you if you have a valid UK VAT ID:
For customers with a valid UK VAT ID, we won't charge you VAT for orders going to the UK. However, you'll be responsible for VAT charges yourself.
What this means for you if you have a valid UK VAT ID, but are based in Northern Ireland:
On January 1, 2021, the EU granted businesses in Northern Ireland an EU VAT identification number. This means that if you are based in Northern Ireland and need to update your VAT ID, you need to remove your current UK VAT ID and replace it with the NI VAT ID.
To replace your VAT ID, in your Printful Dashboard go to Billing > VAT ID.
What this means for you if you don't have a valid UK VAT ID:
- If your total order amount (product price excluding shipping) is less than 135 GBP, we will charge a 20% VAT rate for orders going to the UK.
- If your total order amount (product price excluding shipping) is more than 135 GBP, we won't charge you VAT, however, VAT and customs duties will be payable and customs declarations will need to be made at the border.
