Are there any product variant selection limitations for my Etsy store?
When adding products to Etsy through Printful, it’s important to manage your product variants carefully. Printful has its own limits that affect how many variants you can push to Etsy, and exceeding them may prevent your product from publishing correctly.
What are the variant limits when syncing from Printful?
Each product pushed from Printful to Etsy can include up to 100 variants. This limit applies even if Etsy would otherwise allow more. If you exceed this, the product won’t publish, and you’ll need to reduce the number of variants in the Printful Product Push Generator.
What counts as a variant for my products?
Each unique combination of size and color (or any other selected options) counts as one variant. For example:
- 5 sizes × 5 colors = 25 variants
- 10 sizes × 10 colors = 100 variants
You can easily hit the limit if you offer too many combinations, so try narrowing down your selection before pushing to Etsy.
How does syncing behavior affect my listings?
When using Printful:
- Every selected color must be available in every selected size, and vice versa
- If a combination is missing (e.g., a size is unavailable in a certain color), it will appear as Out of Stock on Etsy
- Too many missing combinations can lead to Etsy rejecting the listing
What are Etsy’s own variation rules?
Etsy also limits product variations, but these are less likely to affect you directly:
- Maximum of 2 variant types per listing (e.g., Color and Size)
- Up to 70 total options per listing
- No more than 400 variant combinations
These limits apply whether you list manually or through Printful.
Best practices
- Deselect any discontinued variants in Printful before syncing
- Ensure all selected colors and sizes are available in every combination
- Keep variant counts below 100 to avoid publishing errors
