How do I change the language of my WooCommerce storefront?
You can change your store’s language using WordPress settings. This affects the built-in WooCommerce interface, like the cart, checkout, and system messages. If you want to offer your store in multiple languages, you can explore translation plugins.
Change your store’s default language
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings → General
- Under Site Language, select the language you want for your storefront (e.g., English, Spanish, German)
- Click Save changes
- Then go to Dashboard → Updates and click Update Translations to ensure all language files are installed
WooCommerce will automatically translate system text if a translation exists for the language you've selected.
Change your WordPress dashboard language only
To use a different language just for your admin experience:
- Go to Users → Profile
- In the Language dropdown, choose your preferred language
- Click Update Profile
This only affects the dashboard for your user account, not your storefront.
Offer a multilingual storefront
If you want to show your store in more than one language:
- Search for “multilingual” or “translation” plugins in Plugins → Add New in your WordPress dashboard
- Look for tools that allow you to translate product titles, descriptions, and other store content
These plugins usually offer options to add a language switcher and manually translate or auto-translate your content.
