Online shoppers are looking for something truly their own—like initials, a favorite quote, or a personal message. Give them the option to personalize your designs!
With Printful’s personalization feature, Shopify orders with customizable products import as drafts, allowing you to add the customer-requested text before fulfillment. Currently, personalization is available only for text-based designs.
Here’s how it works:
- Enable personalization: Turn on personalization for text designs in the Design Maker.
- Collect personalization info: Since Printful doesn’t offer a built-in personalization input for customers, make sure to include instructions in the product description, use a custom solution, or integrate third-party apps (e.g., Zepto) to gather the required personalization details.
- Update order: After the order is placed, manually add the provided text to the order in Printful.
- Approve and submit to production: Personalize the order, review it, and submit it to Printful for fulfillment.

How will customers provide their personalized text?
Printful doesn’t provide a built-in way for customers to submit personalization details on your storefront. It’s up to you to set this up; here are your options:
- Let buyers add personalization info in the order notes at checkout
- Collect it manually (e.g., via email)
- Use a third-party Shopify app or build your own solution

How are personalized products displayed in my account?
Personalized products will display a “Personalized” label in your product list. You can find this label by going to Stores → View store (or under My products → Published).
How do I review and update an order with personalization?
When a buyer places an order, it won’t be processed automatically. Instead, it will appear in your Printful Dashboard with a “Requires personalization” status:
Edit the order items in your Printful Dashboard using the personalization details provided by clicking on Personalize order. If needed, get final approval from the customer before confirming the order.
