If you’re wondering why VAT is charged on your orders to Norway, here’s a quick explanation of how it works.
Printful is registered in Norway under the VAT on E-Commerce (VOEC) scheme. This is a simplified VAT system for non-Norwegian sellers. It requires us to collect VAT upfront on certain orders shipped to Norway, so your customers won’t need to pay VAT at the border.
When VAT is charged on orders to Norway
As of November 8, 2021, we’re required to collect 25% VAT on orders with a delivery address in Norway.
The VAT is calculated on:
(Retail price + retail shipping + services) × 25% VAT
- If the retail price isn’t available, we’ll use the Printful price.
- “Services” include things like digitization fees, if applicable.
Exceptions to VAT charges
No VAT charged by Printful if:
- The retail price (or Printful price) of any single item is over NOK 3,000 (approx. USD 330 / EUR 300).
- In this case, your customers will pay VAT and customs fees upon delivery.
- Your business is registered in the Norwegian VAT Registry.
- To make sure we apply this correctly, submit your Norway VAT ID in your Dashboard. Learn how to do it here.
Orders from marketplaces (Etsy, eBay, Amazon)
Some marketplaces already collect VAT for orders going to Norway. If this applies to your order, we won’t charge you VAT again because this information is shared with us when orders are automatically imported.
Why this benefits you and your customers
Collecting VAT upfront under the VOEC scheme makes things easier for your customers. They won’t have to deal with VAT payments or delays at the border for qualifying orders.
