Printful is registered as a taxpayer in Switzerland and it requires us to charge Swiss value-added tax (VAT)* for all orders shipped to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
As of June 1, 2022, we’re required to collect a 8.1% Swiss VAT on all orders going to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Even though Liechtenstein is a separate territory from Switzerland, they are also using the Switzerland VAT regime. Therefore, tax rules for the orders shipped to Liechtenstein are the same as for orders shipped to Switzerland, and Printful will charge orders to both destinations with Swiss VAT.
The formula we use to calculate Swiss VAT is (retail product price + shipping + services)*8.1%. If the retail price is unknown, we’ll use the Printful price. In this formula, services mean a digitization fee, if applicable.
If you’re a registered taxpayer in Switzerland or Liechtenstein, your order invoices for all shipments to Switzerland and Liechtenstein have to contain your VAT ID number. You can submit your VAT ID to Printful, and we’ll display it on your invoices.
Please note that submitting your VAT ID won’t exempt you from Swiss VAT charges.
Here’s how you can submit your VAT ID to Printful:
- Go to your Printful Dashboard
- Go to Billing > Switzerland VAT
- Enter your VAT ID number and click Submit
Swiss VAT ID format example: CHE-123.456.789. Liechtenstein VAT ID format example: 123456
You don’t need to upload any additional tax documents to validate your VAT ID. Once it’s submitted, you don’t need to wait for a confirmation from us—as soon as we receive it, we’ll take care of adding it to your order invoices for orders going to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
*Swiss VAT is a Swiss consumption tax and it operates a tax system similar to the EU’s value-added tax. Locally, Swiss VAT is known as Mehrwertsteuer (MWST), Taxe sur la valeur ajoutée (TVA), or Imposta sul valore aggiunto (IVA).
