The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is a new key instrument in the EU product safety legal framework, effective from December 13, 2024.
The GPSR requires all consumer products in the EU markets to be safe and establishes specific obligations for businesses to ensure this. The regulation applies to non-food products and all sales channels.
- Does this apply to me?
These regulation applies to businesses selling products within the EU. If you don’t sell to EU customers, these changes don’t apply to you.
- I sell my products in the EU. What do I need to do?
All sellers with products sold in the EU need to ensure their product listings comply with the new regulation by including:
- Manufacturer’s and/or contact information from a responsible person in the EU
- Any relevant product details
- Product safety and compliance information like warnings and safety details
- Whose information do I need to add as the manufacturer and/or the responsible person in the EU?
The EU regulation requires to disclose the contact information of economic operators, such as the manufacturer and/or a responsible person in the EU, to communicate with authorities and customers.
- If you are located in the EU, you’ll need to add your own postal and contact information as the manufacturer.
- If you’re located outside the EU:
- Add your name, address, and email address as the manufacturer
- You can add the following contact information as the responsible person in the EU. This is a solution we’ve developed to maintain our white-label status:
- Name: SINDEN VENTURES LIMITED
- Address: Markou Evgenikou 11, Mesa Geitonia 4002 Limassol Cyprus
- Email: gpsr@sindenventures.com
Note: According to the GPSR, manufacturer refers to any natural or legal person who manufactures a product or has a product designed or manufactured, and markets that product under that person’s name or trademark.
The responsible person in the EU is added when the manufacturer is not located in the EU. The name, postal and electronic address of the responsible person in the EU shall be provided to act on that manufacturer’s behalf in relation to GPSR product safety obligations.
- How do I update products in my store?
Go to our product catalog to find the updated information or look for your products on this list.
You can copy and paste the relevant information into your product listings’ descriptions.
Some marketplaces, like Amazon and eBay, have added unique fields to product descriptions where you’ll need to fill in the required information. We’ve created special product lists tailored to the fields you’ll need to fill in.
-
If you have an Amazon store:
- Use this list
- Learn more on the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) page or visit the Seller Central
-
If you sell on eBay:
- Use this list
- See eBay’s resources for more details
-
If you sell on Etsy:
- You’ll need to update each product listing
- And you’ll need to add an EU-based economic operator for your store by following their instructions. If you’re not located in the EU, you can use the contact information we have added in the third point of this article:
- Name: SINDEN VENTURES LIMITED
- Address: Markou Evgenikou 11, Mesa Geitonia 4002 Limassol Cyprus
- Email: gpsr@sindenventures.com
- Phone number: N/A
If you sell on a marketplace and don’t comply with the GPSR, your products may be blocked, or your listings may not be visible to buyers in the EU and Northern Ireland.
- What do I need to do with the product lists Printful is providing?
We created our product lists detailing the information you’ll need to add to each listing. We recommend searching for your products on the list, copying and pasting the necessary information into your product descriptions, and adjusting the contact details. You don’t need to edit our file—simply copy and paste the information into each listing.
- I have an Amazon store. What is the GPSR Safety Attestation?
The GPSR Safety Attestation field in your product listings indicates if your product needs any warnings or safety information. As per Amazon’s instructions:
- Check Yes if your product doesn’t have any warning and safety information, as it can be used safely and as intended without it.
Printful products don’t have any safety or hazard warnings, so you must select “Yes” for each product. We’ve updated our Amazon product list to reflect this information.
- How will the two-year warranty be honored?
The seller is responsible for the warranty, as per EU Directive 2019/771. This has been the case since January, 2002, as was established by Directive 1999/44/EC.
This means you must provide a refund or replacement within 2 years only for faulty goods, or goods that don’t look or work as advertised. For example, an over-worn item with a new defect wouldn’t count as faulty. See Consumer guarantees for more information.
- What will safety information or labels include?
The information on labels and in product descriptions will differ from product to product. Printful will ensure that the information conforms to the laws in the regions you are selling to.
We recommend updating your listings as soon as possible to ensure full compliance and minimize potential sales disruptions. Staying up-to-date with the latest EU regulations and any policy changes will help keep your store running smoothly and maintain trust with your customers in the EU market.
