If you are registered for a sales tax permit, you can fill out and submit your resale certificate under the Billing section of your Printful Dashboard. Go to the Resale certificate section, and, in the top right corner, click Add certificate.
There you can choose categories of products you wish to become exempt from. We won’t charge sales tax on products in the categories you chose but will continue to charge you sales tax on products in categories you don’t choose.
Once you fill in all the required fields and select a state, click the gray Fill out and print form button. A window with the respective state’s certificate form will open.
There are two kinds of resale certificate forms that can be used for most states, but some states have their own state-specific form. All of these forms need to be filled out electronically, and only the signature can be handwritten.

How to fill out the MTC form:

- Under the Name of Firm (Buyer), enter your legal name (or company name) and your legal address. The name you enter here has to be the same as what you added in your Printful Dashboard under the Legal info section.
- Then choose who you are engaged or registered as. Most likely, you’re a “Retailer”, but you can also choose “Wholesaler” or “Seller” if you’re registered as such. If you check any of these options, we’ll accept your certificate. You can also choose “Other”, but in this case, we’ll only be able to accept your certificate if you specify that you’re an ecommerce or online shop.
- Provide a description of your business and a general description of your tangible property (e.g., custom apparel and non-apparel).
- Add your seller permit number in the green table with the list of states. If you’re registered in multiple states, you don’t need to fill out a separate form for each of them. Instead, add your seller permit numbers for all states to the table. Then, when you go to your Printful Dashboard, you’ll need to upload the same filled-out certificate file for each state separately.
- At the bottom of the form, add your handwritten or digital signature and enter the date. We won’t accept certificates without the signature and/or date.

If you have a different tax-exemption certificate, you can email us at taxexemptions@printful.com. You can find information about tax-exemption certificates here.
Before you submit your resale certificate, please check:
- If you added your legal information to the Printful Dashboard. To do so, go to Dashboard > Billing > Legal info. We can’t approve your resale certificate until you’ve added your legal information.
- If your seller permit is active and valid. We’ll check your seller permit ID on verification websites, and if no confirmation of verification is available, we’ll ask you to submit a copy of your seller permit.
Once you submit your resale certificate, we’ll review it, which takes about 2 business days. Once it’s reviewed, we’ll send an email confirmation stating if it has been approved or rejected. If it’s rejected, we’ll let you know why, so that you could fix and resubmit it.
Please note that your resale certificate needs to be submitted to Printful and approved before an order is placed. Only then we won’t charge you sales tax. We don’t refund sales tax for orders that have been placed before the resale certificate was submitted.
If your organization is a non-profit or a charity, a different tax-exemption procedure applies to you. Learn more about it here.
