From July 1, 2024, the state of Minnesota (MN) charges a retail delivery fee for motor vehicle deliveries to locations within Minnesota.
As of January 15, 2025, Printful will charge the retail delivery fee for all US-based orders with a delivery address in Minnesota.
- The fee is applied to orders shipped to MN if the order total exceeds $100 before the sales tax
- The fee is $0.50 per order, regardless of the item count
- The fee is also applied if the order contains a sales tax-exempt product
- The fee is charged if at least one item in the order is fulfilled in the US
- The fee is displayed on the order and customs invoices as “Road improvement and food delivery fee”
- The fee also applies to Quick Stores orders
- The retail delivery fee is non-refundable, which includes returned orders
There are a few exceptions when we won’t charge the retail delivery fee:
- If every item in the order is exempt from sales tax, the order is also exempt from the retail delivery fee. We won’t charge you the retail delivery fee if you have a resale certificate or a non-profit tax exemption. This doesn’t apply to clothing, which is sales tax-exempt but still incurs the retail delivery fee.
- Orders containing only warehousing items aren’t sales tax applicable, so the retail delivery fee won’t be charged. However, if the order includes both print-on-demand and warehousing orders, the fee will be charged.
- Some marketplaces, such as Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Storenvy, and Big Cartel, already charge Minnesota sales tax and will also collect the delivery fee. This information is available to Printful for all automatically imported orders, so we won’t charge you tax and the delivery fee a second time.
If you have a sales tax permit, you can fill out a resale certificate and submit it to Printful. Then we won’t charge you the retail delivery fee. Learn how to submit your resale certificate to Printful in this FAQ article.
If you have a different tax-exemption certificate, e.g., non-profit tax exemption, send it to taxexemptions@printful.com. Read more information about tax-exemption certificates.
