On July 1st, 2022, the state of Colorado started charging a retail delivery fee for deliveries by motor vehicle to a location in Colorado. The retail delivery fee has the same requirements as the Colorado sales tax, though it isn’t a part of the sales tax, but a separate fee.
As of August 1, 2022, Printful started charging the retail delivery fee for all US-based orders with the delivery address in Colorado.
The fee is applied per order, not individual items, and only if the Colorado sales tax was applied for at least one of the items in the order.
The retail delivery fee consists of six different fees, making a total of $0.29.
There are a few exceptions when we won’t charge you the retail delivery fee:
- If every item in the order is exempt from sales tax, the order is also exempt from the retail delivery fee. So we won’t charge you the retail delivery fee if you have a resale certificate or a non-profit tax exemption.
- Orders containing only warehousing items aren’t sales tax applicable, so the retail delivery fee won’t be charged. However, if the order includes both print-on-demand and warehousing orders, then the fee will be charged.
- Some marketplaces, such as Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Storenvy, and Big Cartel, already charge Colorado sales tax and will also be collecting the delivery fee. This information is available to Printful for all automatically imported orders, so we won’t charge you tax and the delivery fee a second time.
Please note that the retail delivery fee is non-refundable, which includes returned orders.
If you have a sales tax permit, you can fill out a resale certificate and submit it to Printful. Then we won’t charge you the retail delivery fee. You can learn how to submit your resale certificate to Printful in this FAQ article.
If you have a different tax-exemption certificate, e.g. non-profit tax exemption, you can email us at taxexemptions@printful.com. You can find information about tax-exemption certificates here.
