The state of Colorado requires a retail delivery fee on all deliveries made by motor vehicle to addresses within Colorado. This fee applies to most businesses shipping goods to customers in the state, even if the business is located elsewhere.
What is the Colorado retail delivery fee?
- It’s a separate fee from sales tax, but has similar requirements.
- The current fee is $0.29 per order (not per item).
- It includes six smaller fees combined into one flat rate.
When is the fee applied?
We apply the retail delivery fee if:
- At least one item in the order is subject to Colorado sales tax
- The order has a Colorado delivery address
- The order is fulfilled by Printful in the US
When is the fee not charged?
We won’t charge the retail delivery fee if:
- Every item in the order is tax-exempt, such as when you’ve submitted a resale certificate or a non-profit tax exemption
- The order includes only Warehousing & Fulfillment items (since these aren’t subject to sales tax)
- The order comes from a marketplace like Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Storenvy, or Big Cartel that already collects and remits the retail delivery fee; we’ll recognize this automatically and won’t charge it again
Can I get a refund for the retail delivery fee?
No, this fee is non-refundable, even if the order is returned.
How to become exempt from the fee
If you’re tax-exempt, here’s what you can do:
- Have a resale certificate? Submit it through your Printful Dashboard. You can follow the steps in this article.
- Have a non-profit tax exemption or other exemption certificate? Email your documentation to taxexemptions@printful.com, and we’ll take care of the rest.
