Whether you’re placing orders manually or through a connected store, it’s important to understand how Printful charges you for order fulfillment. This article explains how Printful bills you for manual and automated orders, how the Printful Wallet processes payments and refunds, how currency settings affect billing, and what to do if payment issues arise.
Printful’s billing system depends on how you place your orders—manually or through a connected store.
If you’re placing manual orders, you’ll pay at checkout, and the order will go into production right away.
If you’ve connected a store, here’s how billing works:
- Your customer places an order and pays you through your store’s payment platform (like Shopify, Etsy, or WooCommerce).
- If the product is synced on Printful and automatic order confirmation is enabled, that order is automatically sent to Printful, and we bill you for the product fulfillment.
You keep the profit from the price difference between what your customer paid and what Printful charges you.

Why don’t my customers pay Printful directly?
Printful is a white-label printing partner, meaning we fulfill orders under your brand. Your customers don’t see Printful—they buy directly from your store.
Since your store handles the sale, you collect the payment. Then, Printful charges you for fulfilling that order.
If you’re using Quick Stores, it works a bit differently. You’ll be onboarded with Stripe, a secure payment processor, and provide your bank details. Printful collects payments from your customers and transfers your profits to your bank account once a month—if your payout exceeds USD 25.
What is the Printful Wallet?
The Printful Wallet is an internal payment system through which all Printful transactions, like order charges and refunds, are processed.
You can manage your Wallet in your Dashboard and choose between two options:
- Manual top-up: Add funds yourself whenever needed.
- Auto-recharge: Set a minimum balance, and funds will be added automatically from your primary billing method (credit card or PayPal) when your Wallet gets low.
When your Printful Wallet’s balance is lower than the price of product fulfillment, the amount you set in auto recharge will be automatically deposited to your Wallet from your primary billing method.
Refunds from Printful are also added back to your Wallet.
How does currency work?
Printful charges you in the currency you’ve set for your store. It doesn’t matter where the order is fulfilled or shipped—billing always follows your store’s chosen currency.
If you’re placing personal (manual) orders, we’ll use your display currency.
Tips for common payment issues
- If you’re using PayPal and you receive an “Address Verification Failure” it means the shipping address submitted to Printful doesn’t match the address submitted to PayPal when your customer went through their checkout process. For more information on this, have a look at our article here.
- If your card is issued outside the US, make sure international and online payments are enabled with your bank.
