If you’re shipping orders outside the US, your customers may have to pay customs duties, taxes, or import fees. These charges vary depending on the destination country, the value of the order, and local import rules.
Who is responsible for these fees?
Your end customer is responsible for any customs fees. These charges are paid directly to the destination country’s customs agency and are not collected by Printful.
What affects the customs fee?
Several factors can influence customs costs:
- The declared retail price of the product
- The country-specific import threshold
- The type of product
Can customs duties be prepaid?
Yes! For international orders to Canada and the UK, sellers using live shipping rates on select platforms can choose the Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) option. With DDP:
- Customs duties and taxes are added to the shipping rate at checkout
- Your customer pays everything upfront
- The order clears customs faster and arrives without extra charges at delivery
What if I collect VAT in my store?
If you have submitted a VAT ID to Printful, we will pass this information to the carrier and print it on the shipping label where applicable.
