No, you shouldn’t add a marketplace’s IOSS (Import One-Stop Shop) number to the shipping address for orders you fulfill through us. Even if the marketplace recommends it, doing so can lead to shipping delays and tax reporting problems.
Why this may cause issues
Here’s what can go wrong if you add the marketplace’s IOSS number to the shipping address:
- Mismatch in tax reporting: We use our own IOSS number for customs declarations when we ship to the EU. If your shipping label includes the marketplace’s IOSS number, but our system declares the shipment using our IOSS and our pricing, the tax reports won’t match. The marketplace collects VAT based on the full retail price, which won’t align with the lower declared value (Printful price).
- Incorrect VAT regime: For orders both fulfilled and delivered within the EU, VAT is handled under the OSS (One-Stop Shop) system. These shipments shouldn’t include any IOSS numbers—not ours or the marketplace’s. If you include a marketplace IOSS number in these cases, it can create confusion.
- Shipping delays: Adding extra information like an IOSS number to address lines can make them too long. Carriers might need to manually fix the address, which can delay delivery.
When can I use the marketplace IOSS number?
You can only use the marketplace’s IOSS number if you’re shipping the orders yourself. If we’re fulfilling the order, you should leave it out.
Have an EU VAT number?
If you’re a registered VAT payer in the EU, you can submit your VAT registration number to Printful. That way, you may be eligible for VAT exemptions on certain orders.
