Connecting your Shopify store to your Printful account is the first step to start selling print-on-demand products through Shopify. This guide will walk you through creating accounts, adding products, setting up shipping, and enabling live shipping rates.
Create your Shopify and Printful accounts
Before you can connect Shopify to your Printful account, you’ll need to sign up for both platforms.
To create your Printful account:
- Go to the Printful login page and click Sign up.
- Fill in your information and finish setting up your account.
- Once done, you’ll have access to the Printful Dashboard. Click Start selling to get ready for connecting your store.
If you’re new to ecommerce, check out Printful Academy for free courses to help you get started.
To create your Shopify account:
- Go to Shopify’s website and click Start free trial.
- Follow the steps to complete your store setup.
Connect your Shopify store to Printful
Once you have both accounts:
- Go to your Shopify Admin and click Apps.
- Add the Printful app; if you don’t see it, open the Shopify App Store and search for Printful.
- Log in to your Printful account through the app.
- That’s it; your Shopify store is now connected to your Printful account!
Tip: You can also start this process from your Printful Dashboard.
Go to Stores → Choose your store platform → Shopify → Connect. This will take you directly to the Shopify Apps connection page.
Set up your Shopify store settings
Enable markets for international selling
If you plan to sell internationally, you need to activate these settings in Shopify:
- In your Shopify Admin, go to Markets.
- Click Create market to manually select countries you want to sell to, or click Create International Market to use Shopify’s presets.
Manage order processing preferences
To choose how orders are processed:
- Go to Settings → General in your Shopify Admin.

Add Printful products to Shopify
- Go to your Printful Dashboard. The product-adding option depends on your Dashboard layout:
- Some accounts will see Stores → Add product.
- Others will see My products → Create product.
- You’ll only have one of these options, not both.
- Customize your product in the Design Maker:
- Select colors, sizes, and print techniques.
- Add text, clipart, patterns, or upload your own designs.
- Choose your mockup format (JPG or PNG), choose your mockup style, and select the main mockup image with the Star symbol.
- Set up the product details:
- Product title, description, size guide, and tags.
- Add products to Shopify collections if needed.
- Set pricing:
- View Printful’s fulfillment price.
- Set your retail price and profit margin.
- Decide whether to offer free shipping.
- When you’re done, click Submit to store (or Continue) to publish your product.

Tip: Save your design as a Product Template to reuse later across different stores or platforms.
Import existing Shopify products to Printful
If you already have products in your Shopify store:
- In your Printful Dashboard, go to Stores → Your store (or My products → Published).
- Enable the “Import not synced products from Shopify” toggle to import existing products.
- Use the Sync product (or Choose product) to manually sync them with a Printful product and design.
Set up shipping options
Printful automatically creates shipping profiles for your Shopify products, so Printful's Shipping rates are automatically set for your products.

To review or create custom shipping profiles:
- Go to Shopify Admin → Settings → Shipping and delivery.
- You can add your own profiles for products not fulfilled by Printful.
(Optional) Enable live shipping rates:
- Go to Printful Dashboard → Settings → Store settings → Shipping.
- Check the box for Enable Printful’s live shipping rates for your storefront and click Save.
Live rates won’t apply to non-Printful products or products stored in Printful’s warehouse. Shopify combines the lowest available rates for mixed carts at checkout.
Set up your billing information
Printful billing works in two ways:
- Customers pay you through your Shopify store.
- Printful charges you separately through your Printful Wallet for fulfillment and shipping.
You can:
- Manually top up your Wallet.
- Or set up automatic payments via bank card or PayPal.
