If your Shopify order includes products fulfilled by Printful and other products managed elsewhere (e.g. your own inventory or another supplier), Shopify will automatically split the order into multiple fulfillment orders, each tied to a specific fulfillment location.
How this works:
- Printful products get their own fulfillment order assigned to the Printful location.
- Other products get a separate fulfillment order assigned to your other location(s).
- Each fulfillment location updates its own status; so Printful updates their items, and you or your other provider update the rest.
Why this happens
Shopify’s fulfillment orders system manages how orders are routed:
- Each line item is directed to the proper fulfillment source.
- Tracking and fulfillment updates are only sent for the items belonging to each specific location.
What this looks like in Shopify:
- Multiple entries under the “Fulfillment” section of your Shopify order, each labeled with its fulfillment location.
- Printful items show a Fulfilled status with tracking once shipped.
- Other items remain unfulfilled until manually processed elsewhere.
Once all fulfillment orders are completed, the overall Shopify order updates to Fulfilled.
What you should do next:
Make sure your Printful products are assigned to the Printful location in Shopify (under Products → Inventory) to ensure Printful receives the order. Products not assigned to Printful will not be fulfilled by Printful.
